Apple pay – how does it work?

Apple Pay is a very convenient and easily accessible payment system that allows transactions to be made via multiple devices. How does Apple Pay work?

What is Apple Pay?

Apple Pay is an electronic payment system operated by the American company Apple Inc. It can be used since 2014, although at that time it was only available in the United States of America. Over time, however, it was launched in other countries, and in 2018 it also reached Poland. The service almost immediately gained great popularity due to the convenience and high security of transactions. According to a survey conducted in 2019, as many as 94% of Poles asked about it admitted that they had paid for something with Apple Pay at least once in their lives.

What devices can I pay with?

Apple Pay is available on most Apple-branded devices. This means that we will pay with Apple Pay using the following devices:

  • iphone,
  • Apple Watch,
  • iPad,
  • Mother.

So if it turns out that Apple Pay payments are not available on any device, this is a signal to us that something is not working as it should. Apple authorized service will help us deal with such problems.

How to pay in stores?

Apple Pay primarily allows you to make payments for products and services in stores, restaurants, taxis, vending machines and other similar places. Usually, such a payment is available in most places that support contactless card payments and have appropriate terminals. In addition, the points will be marked with one of two iconographies. The first one shows a human hand holding a small card and semicircular waves in its fingers. The second one is simply a rectangle in which the symbol of Apple is enclosed, i.e. a bitten apple, combined with the word “PAY”.

Making a payment using the Apple Pay system previously configured with the card is very simple. First, you just need to briefly press the side button on your phone twice. A panel will then be displayed on the screen where we can authenticate the payment. We can do this using a code, facial recognition system or thumbprint. When the payment is authenticated, all you have to do is bring your phone closer to the terminal, just as we do when we pay for products and services with a contactless card.

How to pay for products online?

Interestingly, the Apple Pay system also allows you to make various payments on websites. To do this, it is enough to use the Apple browser when purchasing products or services – we will find it under the name Safari.

Using an iPhone or iPad for this purpose, all you have to do is tap the Apple Pay button after selecting the product or service. It is important to check every time that all substituted data is correct. We will confirm the payment using a code, facial recognition system or thumbprint. You can also confirm a transaction by double-pressing the side button on your Apple Watch.

You can also pay for products and services online using a Mac. Here, too, it is enough to select the Apple Pay variant when making payments. It’s important that you always check the most important details when paying by computer:

  • billing information,
  • Shipping address,
  • Contact info,
  • Amount to pay.

This information, once entered, substitutes itself, but it is always worth making sure that it is correct each time.

Confirmation of the transaction in the case of computers equipped with iTouch is done by putting your thumb in the right place. The device checks whether our fingerprints are consistent with those remembered by the system. This is a very good and reliable way to confirm payments. It will not work only if the macbook itself is damaged. The website of Apple devices will come to my aid then. If our computer does not have the iTouch function, it will be necessary to confirm the transaction using the Apple Watch or iPhone.

When can payment problems occur?

In practice, problems with payments via Apple Pay are extremely rare. More often the problem will be an interruption in the provision of services by a given bank than problems with the payment system operated by a reliable company Apple. However, if the bank’s system is interrupted, for example due to modernization works, it is obvious that we will not be able to access the funds, so we will not pay with Apple Pay.
It will be similar if the device we are trying to pay with is damaged. In this case, the device should be repaired as soon as possible. iPhone 7 plus display replacement, replacement of the fast apple watch 3 or replacement of the iPhone 8 battery are the basic activities that will be performed in every service point that deals with the repair of this type of equipment. However, if we care about repairing the device at a point dedicated to Apple devices, it is worth including this type of information in the search phrase. For example, by entering the keyword repair apple Szczecin in the search engine, you will easily find services of this company’s devices in a given city.
